Overview

The customer display is a second EvoPOS window that you place on a separate screen facing your customer. It shows your welcome message and business details, the current sale total and payment details, plus a web page in the centre for rolling promotions or other content.

Use it to keep customers informed during a sale and to promote products, specials and services while they wait at the counter.

What the customer display shows

  • Top area: your welcome message and business information, the current date and time, and the staff member logged in as the operator.
  • Centre area: a built-in web browser that displays the web page you choose. A page with rolling promotions or regularly updated content works best.
  • Bottom area: your bottom message.
  • Sale information: on the sales screen, the transaction total updates each time you add an item. On the sale finish screen, the display shows the payment methods chosen for the sale.

Note: Only the sales screen and the sale finish screen update the customer display. Other screens do not change what the display shows.

Where to find it

Go to Settings > Workstations > Sales Options > Customer Video Display.

Prerequisites

  • A second screen connected to the workstation, with Windows set to Extend these displays (not Duplicate).
  • An internet connection on the workstation if your display web page is online.
  • Access to Settings in EvoPOS.

Note: Customer display settings are saved per workstation and apply to the computer you are using. To set up the display for a counter, change the settings on that counter's computer. Repeat for each workstation that has a customer screen.

How-to Guides

How to turn on the customer display

  1. On the workstation with the customer screen, go to Settings > Workstations.
  2. Open Sales Options > Customer Video Display.
  3. Turn on On/Off.
  4. Click Save.

The customer display window opens straight away.

How to set the top and bottom messages

  1. Go to Settings > Workstations > Sales Options > Customer Video Display.
  2. Type your welcome message in Top Message.
  3. Type your bottom message in Bottom Message.
  4. Click Save.

The new messages now show on the customer display.

How to choose the web page for the display

  1. Go to Settings > Workstations > Sales Options > Customer Video Display.
  2. Type the full web address in Default Web URL, including https://.
  3. Click Save.

The web page now shows in the centre of the customer display.

Tip: Choose a simple page that updates itself, such as a specials page or promotional slideshow. Customers see fresh content without you changing the setting. Check the page on the customer display itself before relying on it, as some modern websites don't display correctly in the built-in browser.

How to resize and position the customer display

The easiest way to set up the display is to drag it onto the customer screen and save its position.

  1. Double-click the coloured border around the customer display.
  2. Select Change Position/Size.
  3. Drag the display onto the customer screen.
  4. Resize the display to fill the screen.
  5. Double-click the coloured border again.
  6. Select Save Position.

The display's size and position are now saved, and it opens in the same place each time.

Note: You can also enter the size and position manually in the sizing fields under Settings > Workstations > Sales Options > Customer Video Display.

Troubleshooting

The customer display does not appear

Problem: No customer display window opens on the workstation.

Cause: The display is turned off for this workstation, or it was turned on from a different workstation.

Fix: On the workstation with the customer screen, go to Settings > Workstations > Sales Options > Customer Video Display. Turn on On/Off and click Save.

The customer display opens on the wrong screen or off screen

Problem: The display opens on the staff screen, or you can't see it at all.

Cause: The position was not saved, or the screen setup changed (a monitor was unplugged, swapped or rearranged in Windows).

Fix: Make sure Windows is set to Extend these displays. Then follow How to resize and position the customer display and save the position again. If the display is off screen and you can't reach the border, enter the size and position manually in the sizing fields.

The centre of the display is blank, shows errors or looks broken

Problem: The web page area is empty, shows a script error message, or the page layout looks wrong.

Cause: No internet connection, a mistyped web address, or the website is not compatible with the built-in browser. The customer display uses an older browser engine, and many modern websites don't fully support it.

Fix:

  1. Check the workstation's internet connection.
  2. Check the address in Default Web URL, including https://, by opening it in a normal web browser.
  3. If the page works in a normal browser but not on the display, use a simpler page, such as a basic image slideshow or a plain specials page.

The transaction total is not showing on the display

Problem: The customer can't see the sale total.

Cause: Only the sales screen and the sale finish screen update the customer display.

Fix: Process the sale through the sales screen. The total updates each time you add an item.

Tips & Best Practice

  • Set up the display position once per workstation with Change Position/Size and Save Position. It's faster and more accurate than entering sizes manually.
  • Use a dedicated promotions page or slideshow for Default Web URL, not your home page. Navigation menus, pop-ups and cookie banners look messy on a customer screen.
  • Avoid pages with sound or autoplay video with audio.
  • Keep Top Message and Bottom Message short. Use the bottom message for things that change, like current specials or holiday trading hours.
  • If you move or replace a monitor, save the display position again.
  • Make sure each staff member logs in as themselves, as the display shows the logged-in operator's name to customers.
